Call for Research Abstracts

The Ohio LSAMP Alliance 2019 Conference offers students the opportunity to present their research to an audience of STEM faculty and students from our partner institutions. Students are invited to submit proposals to participate in the poster forum on April 12, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Abstracts will only be accepted through this website until Friday, March 15, 2019, 11:59 p.m. EST.

All proposals will be reviewed by faculty and students will be provided with feedback.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Abstracts must consist of text only. No pictures, graphs, tables, or link will be accepted.
     
  2. Abstracts will only be accepted through this website until March 1, 2017, 11:59 p.m. EST.
     
  3. Each student may be the primary presenter on only one poster abstract.
     
  4. Authors presenting their work at the 2017 Conference must be registered for the conference.
     
  5. The first author is solely responsible for presentation of accepted abstracts. Co-authors or substitutes are not permitted.
     
  6. Ethical and Regulatory Requirements: The first author is required to provide assurance of compliance with the following ethical and regulatory requirements:
    • Research involving human subjects must be conducted in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Declaration of Helsinki and in adherence of applicable national and local human subjects requirements.​

    • Research involving animal subjects must be conducted in accordance with international standards for animal treatment and care.

    • All coauthors must read and approve the final, submitted version of the abstract and consent to listing their name as an author.

    • Submission of previously published copyrighted materials will not be accepted.

    • The first author is responsible for disclosing any conflict of interest on behalf of all listed authors. A conflict of interest exists if financial interests or other opportunities for tangible personal benefit may exert a substantial and improper influence on a researcher’s professional judgment in designing, conducting, or reporting research.

  7. The abstract must consist of the following components:
     
    • For completed scientific research: purpose, methods, results, and conclusions
       
    • For scientific research that is in progress: purpose, objectives, methods, preliminary findings
       
    • For a proposed study: purpose, objectives, proposed methods
       
    • For a literature review: introduction/background, purpose/research questions, method of literature search, conclusions
       
    • For a case report: background, case details, and conclusions
       
    • For instrument validation: description of instrument, methods, results (reliability and validity), and conclusions
       
  8. The abstract must be 250 words or less.

Priority will be given to those presentations that describe completed research. Additional evaluation criteria include:

  • Adherence to submission guidelines
  • Significance of research
  • Methodologically sound
  • Quantitative description of results
  • Conclusions that are substantiated by the results

Poster Template

  • Size: 4 x 4 feet
  • Sections (abstract, purpose, methods, results, conclusions….)
  • Use of bullets and short phrases
  • Graphs better than tables better than text
  • Simple clean design—too many colors and fonts can distract from the message
  • Fonts and sizes
